James Ramseur III, LMSW (He/Him)
Staff Therapist
James is a Black, Latino, queer, neurodivergent therapist based in NYC. With training from the Ackerman Institute for the Family, he works with couples and relationships outside the traditional family of origin, including chosen family, non-monogamy, Relationship Anarchy, and consensual power exchange. With individual clients, he works with various concerns, including identity exploration, intergenerational trauma, unmasking, BDSM/kink, and history of intimate partner violence.
Through a background in higher education, James brings a perspective grounded in Black feminist ideology, highlighting the ways we engage with systems of power every day. In helping clients communicate across social and cultural difference, he also draws on his own experiences as a biracial person in kink education and practice, sex work, and polyamory.
James’ approach to therapy is trauma-informed, abolitionist, and affirming of neurodivergence and disability. Drawing on several modalities—most prominently relational, systems, and attachment—to meet the individual needs of clients, James believes that transformative growth and liberation depend on first developing a therapeutic relationship of trust. His practice is grounded in principles of collaboration, curiosity without judgment, and intersectional justice.
James practices therapy in New York and offers coaching anywhere.
